What to expect at every stage of your IVF journey at Maatritva IVF Fertility Centre
By Dr. Ankita Mandal, MD (OBGYN)
A complete IVF cycle at Maatritva IVF takes 4–6 weeks and involves: initial consultation & workup → ovarian stimulation (10–12 days) → egg retrieval → fertilization & embryo culture (3–5 days) → embryo transfer → pregnancy test (14 days later). Fresh or frozen embryo transfer options are available.
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation with our specialist. We review your medical history, conduct hormone blood tests (FSH, LH, AMH, E2), antral follicle count (AFC) via ultrasound, and a semen analysis for your partner. This gives us a complete fertility profile.
Duration: 1–2 weeks
Based on your assessment, your doctor designs a custom stimulation protocol — choosing the right medications, dosages, and timing specifically for your body. This individualized approach is what sets Maatritva IVF apart from cookie-cutter protocols.
You self-administer hormonal injections daily for 10–12 days to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs. You visit the clinic every 2–3 days for monitoring ultrasounds and blood tests to track follicle growth and adjust dosages.
Common medications: FSH (Gonal-F, Follistim), LH, trigger shot (hCG or Lupron)
When follicles reach the right size, you receive a "trigger shot" 36 hours before retrieval. Egg retrieval is a 20–30 minute procedure done under light sedation/anaesthesia. A thin needle guided by ultrasound collects mature eggs from your ovaries. Most women return home the same day.
On the same day as egg retrieval, your partner provides a fresh semen sample (or frozen sperm is thawed). In our advanced embryology lab, eggs are either inseminated conventionally (IVF) or individually injected with a single sperm (ICSI). Fertilization results are checked the next morning.
Fertilized embryos (zygotes) are cultured in our lab for 3 to 5 days under carefully controlled conditions. Embryologists use time-lapse imaging to monitor development. The best quality embryo(s) are selected for transfer. Remaining good-quality embryos are frozen for future use.
On Day 3 (cleavage stage) or Day 5 (blastocyst), the selected embryo is gently placed into your uterus through a thin catheter. The procedure takes 10–15 minutes and requires no anaesthesia. You rest briefly and return home. Progesterone support medication begins immediately.
14 days after transfer, a blood beta-hCG test confirms pregnancy. During this wait, continue your progesterone support, avoid strenuous activity, and maintain a calm routine. A positive result means your first pregnancy scan is booked for 2 weeks later to confirm fetal heartbeat!
From starting stimulation injections to the pregnancy test, one IVF cycle takes approximately 4–6 weeks.
If you have extra good-quality embryos after a fresh transfer, they are frozen (vitrified) for future use. A FET cycle is shorter, simpler, and less expensive than a full IVF cycle, as no stimulation injections are needed.
Most women work during IVF stimulation and after embryo transfer. You may need to take a day off for the egg retrieval procedure. Listen to your body and reduce stress where possible.
